Slow Food, founded in 1986, is an international organization whose aim is to protect the pleasures of the table from the homogenization of modern fast food and life.  Through a variety of initiatives, it promotes gastronomic culture, develops taste education, conserves agricultural biodiversity and protects traditional foods at risk of extinction.  Slow Food now boasts 80,000 members in over 100 countries.

FOIRE GOURMAND
An annual festival in August celebrating the regional food of the Lac Temiskaming basin in northeastern Ontario and northwestern Quebec.  (Temagami is nestled in northeastern Ontario on the western shoreline of Lac Temiskaming --headwaters of the Ottawa river).  There will be cheese artisans, bison farmers, bee keepers, wineries, soap crafters, chocolatiers and more.  Don't miss the samples and seminars.   Aug. 19-21, 2005.  For the past two year's Caryn was a guest chef at the Foire Gourmande.

NASTAWGAN TRAILS IN TEMAGAMI
For self guided hiking opportunities on Ontario's 'other coast', the western shoreline of Lake Temiskaming, check Nastawgan Trails. The "Nastawgan" are the summer and winter trails established by the Temagami Anishnabai over 6000 years ago.

TEMISKAMING NORDIC SKI CLUB
Temiskaming Nordic offers 20 km of well marked, groomed and track-set skate and classic skiing trails on beautiful rolling esker terrain, a large heated log chalet with indoor washrooms, kitchen, waxing and change rooms - and a warm welcome. Temiskaming Nordic Ski Club (TNSC) offers a great cross-country skiing experience for skiers of all ages and abilities.
