At Smoothwater in Temagami, there are no snowmobiles. Just lots of wonderful snow, beautiful trails and acclaimed, regional, organic cuisine. Attention to detail is our hallmark.

Explore 50 km of trails for invigorating cross country skiing & snowshoeing. Trails are lovingly maintained, well signed and mapped.   For those wishing a more remote Temagami holiday, our backcountry trails feature two funky overnight cabins which sleep six in three double bunks (very cozy). Each cabin is complete with pots, pans, cutlery, wood and propane stoves, a table with benches, and other useful odds and ends. You only need to bring your own food, sleeping bags, dish and personal towels.

Back at Smoothwater Ecolodge, our regional, organic cuisine is continuing to receive rave reviews, and a Smoothwater cookbook is now published and in its second printing. Click here for sample menu tasting. Walls of windows invite you to watch magnificent storms, sunsets and tranquil winter scenes while relaxing beside our piping-hot wood stove. Original art, antiques, and an eclectic adventure library complete our welcoming home atmosphere.

Small and intimate, Smoothwater has only five private rooms, allowing for old fashioned attention to special details.  Each room features vibrant, healing colour, with special touches like original art, quilts and twig furniture. For a group of close friends, ski clubs or schools, our adjacent bunkhouses are ideal. A few steps away, our wood-fired sauna is stoked each afternoon to melt away your aches and pain.

TEMAGAMI CHRISTMAS-NEW YEARS SNOWFEST (December 26 to January 6)
Cross country ski and snowshoe the only trails in Ontario that are snowmobile free! Temagami's Smoothwater is all about a balance of relaxation and invigoration, with lots of natural snow, great converstation and acclaimed organic cuisine.  Cross-country ski, snowshoe, shoot the puck, and toboggan. Chop wood, build snow huts and linger around the winter campfire. The holiday season offers a few extra activities, like classes in yoga, cooking, watercolour painting, and  great-great-grandmother facials.  Don't forget at the end of your day you can melt in the sauna and roll in the snow. Daily yoga is the focus, with forays in snowshoeing, xc skiing, pilates, watercolor painting and cooking with wild flavours. TEMAGAMI MARCH BREAK SNOW FLEA FESTIVAL
Snowfleas don’t bite, but they say spring is here. Count these harmless, tiny critters while you cross country ski and snowshoe. Hoot for owls. Pull maple syrup taffy. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll see a lynx basking in the sun.  Handcraft bread, paint, and take a great grandmother facial. TEMAGAMI HOUSEKEEPING ROOMS
For those wishing to do their own cooking, Smoothwater has two housekeeping rooms. Bachelor style, they are beautifully appointed and include a small fridge, two burners, sink, microwave, toaster, kettle, coffee maker and various eating and cooking utensils. We have not forgotten the wine glasses! Includes one night and trail fee for two. $140 day per couple.

TEMAGAMI CABIN TO CABIN FEVER
Be a pioneer and squirrel yourselves away from the 21st century in a funky wilderness outpost cabin. Cross country ski or snowshoe to your winter nest through old growth forests. Cook on a woodstove. Fetch water. Chop wood. And snuggle in a double bunk. The next day, traverse to the second cabin for more adventure. Cabins are well equipped with cooking utensils and sleep six in three double bunks. Then come home to Smoothwater for a hot drink and sauna before you head back to so-called civilization. Or stay a night at the main lodge and enjoy one of our special regional dinners. 
$40 pp per night, plus trail fees $10 day.   Exclusive cabin bookings available.

TEMAGAMI WINTER HOT TENT CAMPING
Trek on snowshoes with toboggan or pack, or ski to our winter hot tent camp. It's a traditional canvas prospector tent (12' x 14') with a wood stove nestled at the north-west end of James lake. 
One night is $30 pp. plus trail fees and taxes. Please inquire for more details.
